Magnesium Aluminum Zinc Alloy
Author: Robby
The earliest and most widely used magnesium alloy. Aluminum is the main alloying element and plays a role in solid solution strengthening; zinc plays a complementary role in strengthening and can improve the plasticity of the alloy. Small amounts of manganese can be added to improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy. It can be strengthened by quenching and aging. Alloys with low aluminum content are often used in the annealed or cold-worked condition.
Commonly used deformation alloy grades are MB2, MB3 and ZM5. MB2 and MB3 have excellent hot working properties and stress corrosion resistance, melt ingot pressure processing into material.
Commonly used in the production of complex shapes of forgings and hot extruded bars.ZM5 has good casting properties and mechanical properties, mainly used for large castings of complex shapes of large forces of the aero-engine parts.
Main drawbacks: corrosion resistance and heat resistance is poor, casting wall thickness sensitivity is greater.
